Mission

To support and encourage families

who are experiencing a high risk pregnancy or

the birth of a premature or critically ill newborn

 

Parents Reaching Out, a nonprofit, community-based organization is the only agency in the state of Tennessee which provides peer counseling and support to mothers experiencing a high risk pregnancy and parents of premature or critically ill newborns in a neonatal intensive care unit.    Founded in 1983, our program is aimed at long-term solutions in the area of preventive health care for both parents and premature infants.

Why do you, a parent, need Parents Reaching Out?

  • Experiencing a high risk pregnancy or having a baby in a neonatal intensive care unit can be very scary and intimidating.   Parents often feel isolated and alone.
  • Parents Reaching Out offers peer counseling by volunteer parents who have faced similar situations with their pregnancy or baby.
  • Our peer counselors listen and can share coping strategies and caregiving tips that worked for them.
  • Peer counseling is available within 24 hours of a request for service.
  • Parents Reaching Out is only a telephone call away 24 hours a day.
  • Parents Reaching Out does not charge a fee for services.
